Ione Puts Finishing Touches On The City's Budget For The 2018-19 Fiscal Year

The Ione City Council put the finishing touches on the city’s budget for fiscal year 2018-2019 and finished out some other finance-related tasks at a special meeting held Wednesday night. The city plans to raise and spend some $2.2 million dollars from its general fund in the next year, projecting a small surplus of $43,000. The city will spend $860,000 on its police force, $230,000 on building and planning services, and $370,000 on parks and recreation. The city sewer fund is expected to spend $1.2 million dollars. The city’s gas tax fund plans to spend $420,000 on activities related to the city’s roads. One unknown factor in the city’s planning is the new Buena Vista Casino under construction south of the city. The city will be entitled to mitigation funds from the casino, but due to several unknowns, the city has not included them in its budget for the next year. In other business, the council gave final approval to a general fee increase across all city services, approved a contract for a financial audit for the next year, and agreed to move some of the city’s fiscal reserves into a new bank account in order to earn a higher interest.
