The Calaveras DEIR Leaves Members Of The Public With Questions And Concerns

Several members of the public recently voiced their concerns with Calaveras County’s General Plan Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR). During the meeting, facilitated by the county planning department, many speakers requested a commitment from the county to reduce the estimated two dozen significant impacts from growth under the draft general plan. Significant impacts would be on traffic, fire safety, water delivery, sewer capacity, agricultural lands, oak woodlands, historic resources, noise, air-quality and wildlife habitat. Of greatest concern with those in attendance, was the vagueness of language in the draft general plan and the failure of the county to pursue funding from state and federal programs to reduce impacts. Written comments on the DEIR must be received by the planning department before 4 P.M. this coming Monday, Aug. 13th. The DEIR can be reviewed at the main library or on the county website. Computer discs or hard copies of the DEIR can be purchased at the Planning Department.
