Calaveras Fire Units Respond To Grass Fire Near Copperopolis

Calaveras County Fire Units rolled to a reported grass fire yesterday afternoon in the Copperopolis area. The fire started by welding in unsafe conditions and burned a third-acre of vegetation near Reeds Turnpike and Main Street. A citation was issued to the individual who caused the fire for welding without proper fire tools (a shovel), not ensuring 10’ of clearance, and burning lands of another. A backpack pump fire extinguisher is also required while welding. CAL-FIRE reminds us, critical Fire conditions still exist throughout our region, so do your part in preventing a wildland fire.
