Cost Of “Forever Stamps” Set To Rise This Month

The Cost of “Forever Stamps” is set to rise this month. The US Postal Service announced that the cost of stamps will jump from 50 cents to 55 cents. The rate increase takes effect on January 27th. “Forever Stamps” can be used at any time regardless of price increases, so consumers have a little over a weel to stock up before the price rises. The postal service blames these rate hikes on lost revenue saying it lost nearly $4 billion in 2018. Postage rates have risen steadily over the past two decades. In 1991, the price of a stamp was just 29 cents and has risen every few years since. Despite the agency reporting increased numbers of packages shipped, drops in other types of mail volume, as well as increased employee benefit costs have left USPS with a deficit for the past 12 years.
