Public Safety Was The Order Of The Day For The Ione City Council

Public safety was the order of the day at the Ione City Council last night. The council oversaw the swearing in of a new police officer and approved the purchase of new radios for the department. Sworn in was Officer Jonathan Alfred. Alfred previously worked for the city as a reserve officer, and is one of two new full-time officers the city is hiring with money from the new Buena Vista Casino. The council approved the purchase of 14 new personal radios for the police department, enough for both officers and department volunteers. The radios will be paid for with public safety funds from the department of corrections, provided to mitigate for the presence of Mule Creek State Prison.
