Frogs Tour Calaveras

Calaveras County's celebrated Jumping Frogs have launched their annual goodwill tour to build excitement for the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. Every year the frogs promote Frog
Jump in advance by appearing around Calaveras County - and beyond. The frogs debut at the fair kickoff dinner tonight at the fairgrounds and then hit the road with their entourage of Frog Jump committee members/handlers. The tour includes many local schools in the days leading up to the fair, as well as the state capitol jump on May 8 in Sacramento and the Calaveras County Government Center Jump on May 14 in San Andreas. In Addition to exhibition jumping , the frogs and their handlers have lots to talk about at the tour stops. They will note that 2019 is the 33rd anniversary of the frog jump world's record set by the late Lee Giudici and his frog Rosie the Ribiter in 1986 with an unprecedented jump of 21 feet, five and 3/4 inches. Competitors have tried to break that record ever since. Last year's winner was Laura Kitchell or angels Camp. Her Frog names "Reckless" jumped 19 feet 4 and a half inches. This year's event is May 16-19 at Frogtown in Angels Camp.
