CHP Investigates Accident

The Amador CHP is investigating the death of the driver in accident of Friday afternoon.   According to the CHP, around 12:30 Friday, the driver of a 2010 Mazda, was traveling Westbound on Highway 88 East of Bear River, when for unknown reason the vehicle traveled across the roadway and off the embankment, striking a tree.  The vehicle then caught fire.  Passing motorists tried to extricate the driver from the vehicle, but due to the damage, were unable.  The vehicle then became fully engulfed in flames.  The driver was pronounced dead by fire crews when they arrived.  The identity of the driver is still under investigation.
