Amador County Fire Crews Were Kept Busy Monday

Amador County fire crews were busy yesterday. Just before noon engines rolled to a reported fire on Rocky Lane off Red Corral Road. When first responder's arrived they discovered the smoke was coming from a burn pile. Crews reminded the property owner that a burn ban is now in effect. The next call came in around 2, at a residence off Irish Hill Road, near Carbondale Road. A 5,000 square foot barn was fully involved and fire had begun to spread to surrounding vegetation. Fire crews were able to quickly get a wet line around the grass fire, stopping the forward progress at 2 acres, while continuing to work on the barn fire. Fire units remained on scene throughout the afternoon with mop-up operations. Then last night about 10:45, fire crews were called out to a grass fire near the intersection of Coal Mine and Reservation Roads in the Jackson Valley. The fire was stopped at ½ acre, with fire crews on scene into the early morning. The cause of the grass fire is under investigation. No damage reports from the barn fire were released.
